RACE REPORT – 6 HOUR SUPPORT – NATIONAL BEARS SERIES.
PHILLIP ISLAND, VIC : 3 – 5 DECEMBER 2010.
AUSTRALIA'S BEST CIRCUIT WELCOMED BEARS RACING
Last weekend Phillip Island GP Circuit, Australia's best racing circuit welcomed BEARS Racing as a Support
Class for the Australian Endurance Championship, the 6 Hour Endurance race. The Sportsbike | DUCATIONLY
Racing Team contested the National BEARS Series and supported the 'Insure My Ride' 6 Hour Team of Warwick
Nowland and Glen Scott. British, European & American Racing is growing stronger and the strength of this field
was warmly welcomed. With over 40 riders entered in BEARS, the grid was packed with experience and ability.
RIDER COMMENTS:
PETER MARTIN - #21 “I really looked forward to stretching the legs of the Ducati 1198S at Phillip Island, the bike was
designed for this type of track. Unfortunately, the bike did not arrive until after both practice and qualifying on Friday due to
problems with our Mercedes Van. Literally the bike was scrutineered by Officials as I put on my leathers and I went out for
race 1. With no timing transponder I started from the back of a 40 plus bike grid. It was the first time at PI with the 1198
and we did not have any set up time so I was cautious and rode considering what changes were needed. I worked up to
31st but knew the result would not count and I would start race 2 on Saturday from last place 10 rows back.”
“Each start was a chaotic affair with bikes going in all directions, it was a matter of working forward with what track I had in
front of me and eventually worked up to 16th place. The bike is brilliant and loves full throttle, the Beringer Master Cylinder
gave a huge advantage passing into Honda so each lap I was moving forward and having fun. The purpose for racing at
PI was to confirm the changes needed for me to be competitive on this bike in 2011. I now know what I must do and what
the bike needs to be competitive. Hearty congratulations to Richard Liminton on becoming the 2010 BEARS Champion.”
“The Pit presentation of the 'Insure My Ride' 6 Hour Team was stunning, unfortunately a gear selection problem
encountered 2 Hours in to the race, lost the Team any chance at further success. Both Warwick and Glen were
circulating at competitive times and were as high as 5th overall on a very standard 600cc Superstock bike. Next Year!”
“My thanks go to Lyndel, James and the Officials for accommodating my late arrival. Thanks goes to Warwick, Kris and
Luke for including a red bike on the yellow 'Insure My Ride' Team and to the Andrews; Clark and Grover for getting the
Van, Bike and gear to PI no matter what. It was great being on the 6 Hour team and I look forward to next year...
