Well i went for a ride on a 1098s the other week and there are two noticeable differences between it and a Sport classic (GT1000)
1)The ease that it turns into corners. i could not believe how easy it is to ride into corners and put on the power on the way out.
2)how the power is delivered so smoothly. The GT is on or off there is no smooth wind up to the power. this could be because of the slipper clutch as i have never ridden a bike with a slipper clutch before.
Their are alot of other differences obversely but these two are the ones that impressed me the most. cheers Nev

welcome to the new millenium nev.not having ridden a GT or retro styled bike for many a decade, its difficult to comment other than i always assumed that retro bikes also have retro handling. That said it may well be ,that you gets what you pays for....Assuming that for the 30 plus that a 1098s would have been new against the price of a sport low 20s ?,not sure. may well be that design constraints on a retro,to look retro vs the competitiveness of the modern sportsbike market hj

Yah... I would have to agree with you on the fact that you do get what you pay for. If was after value for money I would not have gone for a Ducati at all. How many different HondayamahaKiwa super bikes can you get for 20K that are cheaper and have it all. hell even Ducati use showa suspension parts, Japanese electronics, etc.
I was not complaining about the GT, and after some time to consider the points that i made. It really comes down to 1 simple difference,,,, the power delivery...... and if that is because of the slipper clutch the answer is simple... I know i can fit a 848 slipper clutch straight onto my GT. so for $500+ dollars i can have it all ;D cheers
P.S how is the bike hunting going,, have you made a decision on which one yet? Their are so many to choose from all with good points and bad. Are you basing you decision on you heart or your wallet.

Nev,sorry dont believe its the clutch.1098S Didnt have slipper standard anyway, although it is possible that someone may have fitted one.I was more talking suspension/handling.Big diff in engine output also though.Lots of modern tech on these babies.not a lot would be achieved putting a slipper on yours.General idea is that it will slip/give a little as you knock it back down the gears as your decelerating, preventing rear wheel lock up !!.The alternative without a slipper,is to hold clutch in a little if its about to lockup the rear. Please note nothing is gained on accelaration through gears, and for normal street riding.Usually only installed if doing a lot of track days.Service wise clutch plates wont last as long due to the slipping..hj...p.s maybe its time for u to step up to 848 !!..ps2 nah still fighting mentally with the MV vs Ducati.Mind you missing a bike, having to walk nearly 4k round trip to my car.Thats how close ive managed to park the car at uni.On the plus side it will keep me fit,on the minus ,i got drowned on thursday walking back to the car.Wont be doing anything until property sold, wanna buy a nice house on a acre.even got our own snakes..ha ha ha

Yeah fair enough, after taking in what you are saying about the suspension, (which is the biggest bug bear of all sport classic owners, thats why i have up graded mine) that would help explain what i was experiencing in the handling and power delivery side of things. I will have to check if their is any free play in my throttle cables as their has to be a reason that the GT is so on or off the power.?. It's almost as if i have a 1/4 turn throttle. Nev P.S I would love to buy your property, but I'm already in deet up to my eye brows. Have you had any nibbles yet.

give Michael Anderson a call 0409 700101,he might be able to point you in the right direction with the throttle. a lot of 1098/1198 owners change theres to quicker ones. Not sure if he sells them, but may know where to buy and what works.hj.......had a few nibbles, most still have to unload there own though,or a dreaming !!
