Ride Report to Eastern Creek 25th July 2009 Just returned today, from what felt like a reunion of the former [as Mel, use to call it] Rat Pack Club. All former members had fronted up at Eastern Creek for the Track Day that Wazza [VP], organised by DOCNSW committee. With Ducati owners from the SCDOC, Sydney and all the way up to Newcastle and beyond. Some of us were there as mere observers of proceedings. Dave’,blackwidower’ Michael, ’ozducati’ with his arm in a sling, the result of aerial acrobatics, some weeks before at EC. And Nigel, whom remains bike less since his injuries last year, looks and sounds dramatically better. So much, that he is starting to contemplate getting another Ducati. Just one major hurdle!. Getting it past the ‘one who must be obeyed’. Whilst others, like Sprig, Nino, JDW, Ross, Wes, and Wazza , were out honing their ride craft. Howard [Madam Prezs, long suffering husband],was out having a blast around the track, alternating between his Ducati and the Post Classic Bitza[ part Honda and everything else of that era !!].Not a pretty machine, but quite an effective track day weapon. Testimony to the fact, that its not necessary to go out and spend squillions of dollars to go and have fun. Don’t think they will be packing him off to the retirement home just yet!. Unfortunately poor Craig didn’t get the opportunity to stretch his nice 1098S long legs. His bike deciding to part company, with its trailer during the trip across to EC. Fortunately it is insured. Chewy likely had the save of the day. Whilst out testing Wazzas 996,it decided to develop a coolant leak, spraying out onto the rear tyres. Coolant and tyres don’t mix evidently, and on returning to the pits, Chewy was last seen checking his pants for stains! Others during the day were not so lucky. Fortunately, suffering damaged egos rather than bones. They all appeared to enjoy their time, not only on, but also off the track. Camaraderie!, whilst enjoying their bikes. Being mid winter, and aware that we would likely loose light around 5.30pm.Dave and I departed EC, for a fairly cautious, but uneventful ride home for me. I had the difficult task of presenting a ‘love letter’, courtesy of those with flashing lights, to the boss when I returned home. As a full-time student, being supported by her, she took it surprisingly well. With over twenty years, and some poor history in this particular area. I don’t get the sympathy vote, no matter what the circumstances. Monday morning, it was cold comfort that I had been one of the victims of a ‘successful speeding blitz’ that local area command had undertaken over the weekend. .So be wary of mid 80s Ford Lasers ,with only two people sitting in them parked on the side of roads.
