Well I did the advanced course and i really did enjoy it. Their was a 3 hour seminar on the Friday evening before the Monday at Oran Park, The Friday covered Buffer zones and the theory on the science behind a moving object (the bike and rider) speed and trying to go around a corner. You know the gyroscopic effect etc . Anyway the fun stuff was on the Monday at the track there was lots of track time with 5 instructors and 20 pupils. and you could go as fast or slow as you felt comfortable with. We did emergency breaking, slow maneuvering and one on one tuition at general riding. (Looking as far forward up the road, moving your body weight to turn and counter steering etc) it lasted from 0830 to 1630. It was a full day I covered over 400K's that includes getting their and back. Im shaw others have done this course. What did you thing of it.

I have done the Stay Upright Advanced, the Stay Upright Cornering and Braking School, and the Superbike School Level 1.
I came back into motorcycling after a break of 23 years, and after riding for 6 months I did the Superbike School at Eastern Creek. Probably too early on reflection - I would have gotten more benefit from this course if I had done it later.
I had an accident on my way to PI for the Superbike races in March '06, so my kids bought me the Stay Upright Advanced course (buggers didn't even have their tongues in their cheeks - they were serious!), which I did in May '06. I had never previously received formal training for riding, going for my license in 1970 I passed the "just do a U turn without putting your feet down and park the bike without falling off" test with flying colours!
I chose to do the Stay Upright Cornering and Braking Schools about 4 months later, in October '06.
I then did the Superbike School Level 1 again in December '06. I followed this up with a track day (slow group) in January '07.
So, my opinion is:
If you are coming back into riding after a layoff, or new (ish) to riding (say less than 5 - 7 years) the Stay Upright Advanced course will be of great benefit - they will teach you ROAD skills that you probably never knew (I didn't know 'till I did this the benefit of using your back brake in cornering!) and re-emphasise stuff you may have been taught but have forgotten or ignore. Emergency braking, cornering techniques, general braking, tight U turns etc.
Next do the Stay Upright Cornering and Braking - this goes further that the Advanced in cornering, even teaching how using a racing line in a corner to get you out of trouble, also braking techniques - body posture etc. This is a BIG day - I used 15 litres of fuel this day! and was completely knackered at days end. The day was held at Oran Park.
Then do the Superbike school - five sessions of 20 minutes you'll get 40 - 45 laps of Eastern creek over the day - lot of emphasis on throttle control and cornering lines and techniques - virtually nothing on braking - in fact the first few sessions braking is not permitted. Lots of sports bikes at this school. Instructors ride with you each session.
If you are never going to to a track day, I feel the Stay Upright Cornering and Braking course would be of more benefit to the majority of riders over the Superbike School.
Don't let the fact that the courses are held on a racetrack hold you back, all of them have rules for overtaking, and lap times are not recorded or important. The Superbike School has a racing type bent to it, so there can be testosterone flowing at times, not so at the Stay Upright courses which seem to cater for a wide range of riders skill-wise. Lots of cruisers at the SU Advanced, plus a guy, newly retired, who did the whole course, with his wife as pillion!
Hope this helps....
