I'm just about to purchase a 1979 500 desmo sport and they seem to have a lot of mediocre reviews whats the problem? Also any idea what I should be paying for this machine its done 40000 clicks and rides and goes very well for an old boy like me. I only want a bike for the odd occasional short ride because of some problems with the old knees any more than an hour in the saddle and I've had it!!!.Anyone out there that offer any help of any kind I would appreciate it.
Regards Barry

Not many ks for an old veteran.Gowanlochs ,Mike Sunderland[02 97504346] is probably a place to start.Theirs a few /bevels/darmah s and hailwood for a start in the club.dont know of any 500s,theres always the first. If it suits you, thats the only thing that matters. As for getting old,i recall last years Ducati Turismo[arround 3000ks over a week].A aged gentleman[im being kind]rode all the way,and set quite a pace.I knew i was riding too slow when his bevel went flying past with walking stick !!!! attached to the frame....john

Hi Honest John,Mike Sunderland was a great help he pointed some of the bad and good points evidently they are a bit of an orphan and Ducati would like to forget them. There are a few design bloopers than can be overcome with thought one is the oil pump sits high and can cause some feeding problems.Having said all of that his Dad has one so there you go he values them as far as he is concerned at around $2000 but then again he's a business man so I take that in to account. Thanks again if the deal comes off I'd like to njoin your club !!!!
