Its an unusual feeling on the track and i find the best way to go is to suspend your road riding mentality which rightfully is more cautious...i love the fact that you have the whole road and that you dont have to look behind you...just get in the groove, point and shoot...its such a relaease to get these machines away from the artifical speed barriers created by common sense, the police and the RTA and take them into the envoironment where they truly belong...riding a Ducati on the road is rewarding if you have a nice traffic free stretch but the analogy i draw would be how much fun would it be to take a race horse for a run in a suburban back yard...NOT!!!!!.....these things are designed and built to perform at levels above the capacity of most normal humans...if you reckon you are riding at 50% of the bikes capacity i reckon you are in reality only 10% there.......they are truly a marvel of engineering excellence...

blackwidow, Sorry to hear about you coming too close with the tarmac, I wish you and the bevel head a speedy recovery. I know that if that would happen to my SC I would very upset maybe even cry. Urio

Yep I had a great day....well until I saw Dave dirt diving in turn 11. So Dave the plan is we go back and nail that f**ka. PM me if you need a hand with your bike. Oh yeah the guy chasing wrecks...There was another black 900SS that went down (Chewie). I think he was in the white group? So anyway after my first session I return to my pit garage and theres like 20 guys standing around with cameras taking pics all the while of his crashed bike...I mean crashing is part of the game...thats just how it is, but I think its a bit much having an audiance and question time? You need to work out what happened but not with an audience.......An insight into professional racing there boys??? OK so once Dave was cleared it was back to the pits and time to refocus, gas the bike ditch the tyre warmers and warm up the bike for another lap. This was my second time to EC, I remember my very first session and my state of mind at the time was GO HARD!!!.....well after 3 of those I was warn out so I tuned my thinking to work the best lines and not worry about overtaking the next bike in front. This time I totaly did the samething (I never said I was smart) Only this time I was more comfortable in my new leathers and gel grips, I knew the way around so it was less concentration, less effort.....and I didnt ride to the track in freezing weather like a thingyhead. That let me focus on my lines this time throughout the day. The best part was finding a suspension setup ( 3 days before) that allowed me to ride my natural style. Now I consider my bike to have a proper 'Geometry Base line' where I can tune the suspension for the conditions, and have it turn sharp without understeer. I was lucky it was a club day as I was able to run with a lot of 1098's and physicly see the changes were all positive. The negitive is Im the only one running this kind of geometry? I beleive Im going in the right direction and my "theorheticle' lap times came down 7sec a lap (1:56 average) so, so far so good. The cool part of the whole club track day thing is its like a normal club ride only bigger better and FASTER....hehehe, you ride 20min then socialise for an hour.....then ride again.....how cool is that??? I got to meet Nev and a bunch of other SC DOC members and a ton of NSW DOC members, apearently it was quite the gathering, members from the South Coast to the North Coast. I have'nt even mentioned the bikes.....WOW the bikes....what wasnt there is all I can say... and f**k it was LOUD I say if you have'nt done one post up and lets orginse it, its great fun....its not a race, you dont have to keep to a crazy pace or anything its all good. Allright I've done enough raving about the club track day.....lets ride somewhere? Wes

wes and dave, all the photos got sent to me[as editor, docnsw] from aunty mal,i was most supprised of all to see chewies beloved 'beverley',go down,as over time ive done a lot more miles with chewie[ndrs, turismos etc],both with his ST,and his beloved 'bev'.and his ability on the road far surpasses my own.which only added to my own reluctance to put the 999 on the track, where its ability is far greater than mine.good on you all for at least having a go.the race horse may not be coralled in the suburban back yard, but rather, allowed to gallop arround the pitt street farm acreage. john

I know what you mean John I am also reluctant to put my SC on the track just in case I can't make that turn and have to put it down. I know it not a race, but it is very hard not to exceed your comfort zone when everybody is overtaking you. I did a track day a couple of years ago, on a borrow BMW R1100S (I know the choice of bike but beggar can't be choosy). I took two corners too wide and lucky I was the last one so nobody was behind me otherwise.... But it was hard when riders on chookchasers were overtaking you.

Dave, Maroubra is not bad... but it still takes me a bloody hour just to get out of the city, i remember the Ivan the terrible ride where i think i left home when you buggers were all still in bed, and probably got home after you'd all gone to bed..wll nearly... i enjoy riding with you guys, just haven't done a lot of riding besides a few track days the past few months..will catch up again soon...hope you're feeling better and the bevel is ok by now? catch up soon guys, take care!
