One of our new members by the name of Mark rang me today. He's just purchased a new monster 696 and is very keen to get involved in club activities. Mark has spent many years photographing motorcycles, mainly dirt bikes and his work has appeared on the covers and the pages of Australian Dirt bike. etc
He is a professional photographer and has offered to take photos during any of our organised rides...basically giving members the same service you would get at an eastern creek ride day but in a road environment. I'll leave it to Mark to explain how this could work in practice and costs involved once he becomes a member of the forum.

Hi All
My name is Mark Newsham, I just introduced myself on the intro board today. As Alex said in the above post I rang him on the weekend to run a couple of ideas past him about photographing club rides. I recently bought my self a Ducati and have been out riding most weekends since. I have been carrying a camera with me on some rides and shooting different things. I’m running out of angles to shoot my bike parked on the side of the road and I would like to shoot some moving Duke’s instead of parked ones. That’s why I rang Alex .
You might be thinking taking photos on rides is a pain in the arse and just slows things down and I would agree with you. The idea I’m proposing is a technique I call the “Leap Frog Method” and this is how it works. I met up with a group of SCDOC riders at the start of a ride. I find out the proposed route and location of first stop. I head out 10 minutes before the group, find a nice well lit corner, park, get the camera out ( takes about 3 minutes) and then shoot each rider as they skillfully negotiate the corner. The pack doesn’t stop they just keep on riding the planned ride, I jump back on and catch up to the tail end at the next towed caravan or fuel/drink stop. Same thing at this stop, I leave 5 to 10 minutes early and do the same again and continue the process for the rest of the ride. This should all happen without slowing down the flow of the ride. At the end of the day I might have six maybe eight different corners shot and hopefully some cool shots of some SCDOC members in their natural environment. The end result should be images like you would see in a magazine bike test or shootout. So with bit of work together we can make the SCDOC website and newsletter the best in the land.
What’s in it for me you ask. I get to hone my bike shooting skills, test equipment and build up a library of scenic images of the area. Images that instead of having Toyotas and Mazda’s in them. They will have Ducati’s in them. A shot of the Sea Cliff Bridge with a couple of Dukes on it is such a better picture than the SCB with a couple of Corolla’s on it, in anyone’s book. Of course if anyone wants to buy a print of their bike cranked over in a corner for the pool room wall then I’m more the happy to get that happening as well.
I have a couple of other shooting techniques I working on setting up where I mount the camera to my bike and shoot with super wide lenses while moving which creates great speed blur effects but I can tell anyone who’s interested about that in person down the track.
I’ve been riding most Sundays since I got the bike. Generally early start half day rides, I live in the Gong and have been heading south or south west most Sundays . So if any ones interested in having me come along let me know.
Not sure yet if I’m able to post images on this forum I’ll give it a go later but if anyone’s interested in seeing some samples of some motorcycle photography I’ve done over the last couple of years you can send me an email and I will send you some low res images to check out.
Look forward to meeting all members in the future.
Regards

Great to have someone with your skills on board Mark...I dont think there is any restriction on posting photos so go for it when ever you are ready...
Cheers

I've tried posting images up but it's got me buggered if I can work it out. It can obviously be done. I've seen images up in the For Sale section.
Anyone like to offer more some pointers in how to go about posting images up here.

Hi Nev Thanks for the tips on uploading images. Yeah, the meeting on the 27th sounds like a great opportunity to meet some club members. Also I can stake out a corner between Jamberoo and Kiama and get some pics as you head in and out of town. So I'll plan on being there at the meeting. As it comes together we can make up plan about what time I should head down there to be ahead of the group. As I promised only Ducati's posted from now on
